Take Action

This August Recess,
Help Us Get the Word Out! The Americans for Transportation Mobility (ATM) and the Transportation Construction Coalition (TCC) have created this grassroots toolkit for use when your elected officials are at home during the August recess. The TCC and ATM urge you to take as many of the actions as you can to put the pressure on Congress. With your help, we can ensure Congress understands that solving our highway and transit funding challenges is essential to our long-term economic growth and prosperity. Congress is ten months late in passing the federal surface transportation legislation that sets policy and funding levels for the next six years. As a result it is virtually impossible for state and local transportation officials to anticipate how much money they will have available for the kind of long-term highway and transit projects that add capacity, improve road safety and cut traffic. Instead, they use the funds made available through a never-ending series of short term extensions to do simple maintenance and repair projects.
As we’ve all seen with countless issues, we can generate the kind of pressure on Congress needed to get them to act on vital, yet challenging legislation. But the best way to do that is to get as many employers, employees, and YOU, the general public, involved in telling Congress it is time to do their job. Congressional inaction on the surface transportation bill is leaving our roads and bridges woefully underfunded, undermining plans to address commuter and shipping bottlenecks, forcing even more construction layoffs and threatening our ability to compete against foreign economic rivals like China and India. Your actions today could help pave the way to a healthy 21st century transportation system. Learn more about how American jobs are in jeopardy due to continued Congressional inaction:
