On January 31, 2012, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee formally introduced their transportation reauthorization proposal today as part of The American Energy and Infrastructure Jobs Act. The committee issued a press release, and a summary of the legislation is also available. In a U.S. Chamber Statement, Janet Kavinoky commended Chairman Mica, and said the reforms "can contribute to more effective investments and can increase Americans’ confidence that the federal government is ensuring that their tax dollars are spent wisely and effectively."
The previous week, the Americans for Transportation Mobility Coalition launched the Make Transportation Job #1 campaign calling on Congress to pass federal highway, transit and safety legislation that, at a minimum, maintains investment levels before the current law expires on March 31, 2012 with a Letter to Congress signed by more than 1,000 business, organizations, associations, coalitions, and other groups.
Janet Kavinoky is the executive director of ATM and the U.S. Chamber's top transportation lobbyist.
