ATM Coalition Applauds Senate Passage of DRIVE Act

Contact: Erica Flint, (202) 463-5682

The Americans for Transportation Mobility (ATM) Coalition issued the following statement today upon Senate passage of the Developing a Reliable and Innovative Vision for the Economy (DRIVE) Act, a six-year highway, public transit and safety bill:

The business, labor, highway and transit interests, and concerned citizens, represented by the ATM coalition applaud the United States Senators who stood together today for improved safety, greater economic competitiveness and growth, increased jobs – reductions in red tape – all possible through greater investment in America’s highway and transit systems.

We particularly applaud the fact that the DRIVE Act was the product of bipartisan collaboration. We also commend Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Environment and Public Works (EPW) Chairman James Inhofe, and EPW Ranking Member Barbara Boxer for steering the legislation to its conclusion in the Senate.

It is now time for the House to hit the gas in development of its bill and revenue options. The October 29 finish line will be here before we know it and American consumers and businesses – as well as states across the nation – have been in need of better infrastructure for years. Thank you to the following members of the Senate for their leadership through their vote to invest in transportation that will drive forward American communities now and in the future:

The Americans for Transportation Mobility Coalition is a collaborative effort by business, labor, transportation stakeholders and concerned citizens to advocate for improved and increased federal investment in the nation’s aging and overburdened transportation system. The coalition believes the deterioration of the nation’s transportation system undermines the economy, jeopardizes our safety, threatens our quality of life, and harms the environment.
